Thoughts and Insights on Spa Equipment
by Richard Eidson

The Steamy Wonder™ Spa owners, spa managers and spa therapists are always searching for the best spa treatments. Great spa treatments make for a great spa! And you can find and almost endless variety of spa treatments at spa trade shows, in spa magazines and other sources. The search for new spa treatments is a constant part ofbeing in the spa business.

As mentioned in the first article, the Spa Treatment Formula can be used a tool to analyze any spa treatment. The formula is:

Spa Treatment = Product + Equipment + Technique.

Imagine you are at the Las Vegas Spa Show this June 9th, 10th and 11th. [Editor’s Note: See Golden Ratio at Booth #1044 & 1046] As you walk past each of the hundreds of booths, most will be offering you various spa treatments. You will be presented with a specific spa treatment with promises of benefits for your client and profits for you. You are going to be informed of certain products you need, what equipment is necessary and what training you will be provided to learn the technique to perform the treatment. If everything they tell is you is accurate, then your clients are going to get great benefits and you are going to have a profitable treatment.

But as you know, not all spa treatments being offered produce the benefits for your clients or the profits you expected. As you are presented with this a vast number of spa treatments, the ones you choose will be a major part of the success or failure of your spa.

Let’s now use our Spa Treatment Formula to analyze cellulite treatments. At any trade show you are going to be presented with many cellulite spa treatments that promise great results. You know that if you could find a cellulite treatment that really worked for every client, that you would have a spa treatment that could make your spa a success. Let’s look at three different cellulite spa treatments:

1. Body Wrap Cellulite spa treatments use products and body wrappings and promise significant improvement with cellulite (there will be more of one of these at the show). Emphasis on this approach is the product.

Product = some type of cream or liquid applied to the skin that will nourish, detoxify and make the cellulite vanish.
Equipment = a massage table and a supply of various cloths or plastics to wrap the client with.
Technique = probably not very complicated other than applying the cream, wrapping the client to a mummy like condition and unwrapping about 30 to 40 minutes later.

2. Endermologie Cellulite spa treatments use a highly technical piece of equipment, the Endermology Machine, to eliminate cellulite. The emphasis in this approach is on the equipment.

Product = cream or oil to facilitate the equipment as it moves over the skin.
Equipment = a high tech machine, and very expensive, that massages the skin in such a way as to promote a healthier system and eliminate cellulite.
Technique = training is mainly in using the equipment properly.

3. Cellulite and Body Contouring spa treatments by Natural Health Spa Education www.naturalhealthspaedu.com. The emphasis on this approach is technique and detailed training.
4.
Product = massage oil, activating gel, seaweed cream and essential oils.
Equipment = massage table, Steamy Wonder steam canopy [link to cgi-script page for this on BW site], GX-99.
Technique = specific manipulation of areas with cellulite using both manual massage and the GX-99 and the various products and equipment. There are different approaches for clients based on age, weight, pre-existing conditions, etc., to produce a treatment sequence and series that will work for that particular client.

All three above promise significant results and profits. They are examples of three different spa treatments that you might have to choose between when considering a cellulite spa treatment for your spa. It is not always an easy task, but this time at the show or when choosing a spa treatment, look at treatment in terms of the Spa Treatment Formula and use this tool to help see if the spa treatment is right for your spa.

In our next article, we will discuss how by using the Spa Treatment Formula, hidden problems, limitations and misleading promises of various spa treatments can be more easily located and considered.
