Building a community of people on your web site starts with people interacting with other people. A community "feel" on your web site is a sure way to keep visitors coming back again and again. However powerful, it takes time and patience to build and maintain a vibrant community. Below are some tips to get started:

Cultivating community on the Internet starts with a group of people sharing common interests. Encouraging visitors to frequently interact with your site and with each other will create goodwill for your organization while satisfying the basic human need to become part of something worthwhile.

Next generation web sites are implementing creative features such as discussion forums, chat rooms, bulletin boards, and email lists, to invite participation and encourage the exchange of experiences and opinions. An example of effective community-building is Amazon.com’s product review section. Book reviews available on the site are written by readers rather than professional critics.

Community Tips
· Provide relevant and timely content to encourage frequent visits.
· Earn the right to ask for information.
· Include a privacy statement informing users exactly what you'll do (or more likely won’t do) with personal data.
· Encourage word-of-mouth advertising through “viral marketing” (for example, “Tell a friend about this site.”)
