PREFERENCES AND OBSTACLES

As our nation has dealt with the bombings in New York, the Pentagon and the downed plane in Eastern Pennsylvania, we have seen our nation come together in ways that are not in our normal realm of preference. Students and schools that I have communicated with recently seem to be questioning the way they make choices in curriculum and class schedule. Our process in choosing one thing over another has been altered by the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

I would like to offer three ways our preferences becomes obstacles and three ways to keep our preferences from becoming obstacles:

Three ways our preferences becomes obstacles:

- Imposing our preferences on others as something sacred.
- Focusing on the issue with no concern for the people involved.
- Taking the approach of tolerance, which may not be volatile, but is certainly less productive.

Three ways we can keep our preferences from becoming obstacles:

- Surrender your right to have it your way.
- Strive for unity not uniformity.
- Make relationships the priority.

We have seen past presidents and politicians put aside their party line to work on unified agendas for helping this nation to rise from the ashes and to become stronger than we have ever been in past history. We have witnessed Hollywood coming together to raise funds for victims and survivors without any monetary gain of their own. Athletic teams working as one to provide assistance in any form that they can.

In this great market we call bodywork, we all want to provide service and value to those we come in contact with. Let us proceed with a unified preference of grace and unconditional love for those around us.

Be well,

Greg
